The Administration Bureau of Exit and Entry of the Public Security Department of Guangdong Province, China on Monday announced the provincial government’s plan to repatriate Nigerians arrested for overstaying their visas.
The Bureau’s Director, Yuan Wei, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Guangzhuo that such Nigerians were found to be working illegally even after the expiration of their visas.
Yaun said it was a criminal and punishable act in the Chinese immigration regulations and laws for anyone to overstay his visa duration.
He said: “From our investigations in 2014, we discovered that many Nigerians overstay their entry visa duration to enable them to work in our province illegally.
“And any foreigner that overstays his or her stay period in any part of China is often seen as an illegal immigrant and violating our immigration laws.
“We are therefore, going to be repatriating Nigerians found to have overstayed or working illegally for some persons in our province.”
Yuan said that such Nigerians would not only be repatriated but would be monitored closely to ensure that they never come near the province or any other part of China.
He also disclosed his government’s plan to sanction Nigerians with Resident Permit in the province who provide jobs and accommodation for those that had overstayed their visa durations.
Yuan appealed to Nigerians to always decide before leaving Nigeria whether to have a short or long stay in the province or other places.
He also urged Nigerians to always follow the right process in seeking extension of their visas in any part of China rather than resort to illegal and criminal options.
