The Champions League quarter-final between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid is a rematch of the final between the two clubs in Lisbon last May.
The rivals know each other well but this European clash will bring back memories of a classic encounter.
Real Madrid clinched La Decima, an historic 10th European Cup triumph, with a 4-1 win after extra time as they inflicted a heartbreaking defeat on their rivals from the Spanish capital.
Atletico had overcome the disappointment of losing Diego Costa to injury in the early stages to score first when Diego Godin headed beyond Iker Casillas late in the first half.
Diego Simeone’s side then defended with trademark resilience to keep out an increasingly desperate Real Madrid side only for Sergio Ramos to finally find an equaliser in the third minute of stoppage time.
Atletico were left deflated but the scores remained level through the first period of extra time and Angel di Maria bounded away down the left and Thibaut Courtois could only push his shot into the path of Gareth Bale for the Welshman to nod home.
A further goal from Marcelo and a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty added some gloss to the scoreline and ensured it would be Real celebrating win No 10 rather than Atletico breaking their duck.
Even so, Simeone’s side have recovered from the blow sufficiently this season to gain some revenge – beating Real over two legs in the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey as well as doing the double over their opponents in La Liga.
