The entire students bodies in Ekiti State has condemned the impeachment plans by the 19 All Progressives Congress legislators of the Ekiti State House of Assembly.
In a joint statement by the Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Bankole Adetunji; Students Union President of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, Ajibola Oladapo; Ekiti State University former Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Priscilla; and Part Time Students Association of the Ekiti State University Ado Ekiti, Oloyede Olanrewaju, the students warned the former Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Dr. Adewale Omirin, and his 18 members not to disrupt the peace being enjoyed in the state since the assumptions of office of Governor Ayodele Fayose.
The students advised Omirin and others to wait for the determination of their case challenging the impeachment of his speakership rather than causing crisis in the state.
They said: “We have come to condemn the actions and inactions of the erstwhile speaker and 18 legislators for throwing Ekiti peace into shambles of cacophony and imbroglio out of selfish interest and imported directives of the Lagos based imperialist.
“It is on record that Dr Adewale Omirin and his deputy Barrister Orishalade were allegedly impeached for misconduct by the House late last year. It is also on record that Dr Omirin and others in admittance or rebuttal of this pronouncement directly or indirectly had sought the intervention of the court for possible reinstatement.
“Ironically it becomes whimsically intolerable to witness this contempt of the court as occasioned by Omirin and others despite their level of education. It is believed that when a matter is in court, all activities on such matters are put to a halt, as against Omirin’s attempt to forcefully sit as the speaker of the House, wherein, he could execute the muudane and vindictive plot to illegally impeach our most respected Governor of the state.
“Ekiti Students across all tertiary institution wish to outrightly reject this conspiracy. We hereby wish to caution Omirin that not only students, but market Women, civil servants, Artisans, Pensioners, farmers and other groups have been enjoying the uncommon peace in Ekiti before their unwelcomed arrival for their wicked and unholy assignment, which shall never see the light of the day.”
The students, who said that Ekiti State is not an extension of Lagos State, emphasised that come April 11, they will vote enmasse for the right set of people for the House of Assembly just like they did on June 21, 2014 and March 28, 2015 in Ekiti State.
