The Peoples Redemption Party on Wednesday threw its weight behind the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.
The party resolved to do this after it carefully and critically examined the issues leading to the April 11, 2015 governorship election by electorates.
Such includes the need for continuity.
A statement signed by the state Chairman of the party, Comrade Emmanuel Igbini, in Asaba on Wednesday urged all well-meaning Deltans to key into the political zoning and rotational arrangement in the state for justice, fairness and equity.
Igbini said: “That PRP Delta State, in considering the overriding interest of the state and her beloved people, therefore adopts and fully supports the continuation of zoning and rotation arrangement amongst the three Senatorial District of Delta State that has been existing since year 1999 and has produced governor James Ibori of Delta Central Senatorial District and Dr Uduaghan Emmanuel of Delta South Senatorial District.
“That PRP Delta State therefore adopts and fully supports Delta North Senatorial District of Delta State to produce the next governor of Delta State.
“That the Leaders and people of Delta North Senatorial District should immediately agree on a consensus governorship Candidate to be presented to Deltans for the Office of Governor of Delta State come April 11, 2015.”
Igbini maintained that his party, which had long believed and strongly advocated for zoning and rotation arrangement for some critical and vital elective positions in the state, would not relent in guaranteeing equal opportunity to all major ethnic groups in the state to present sons and daughters to lead us at various positions of common interest.
