The gubernatorial candidate of All Progressives Congress in Plateau State, Barrister Simon Bako Lalong, and the party’s leadership in the state have expressed fears over the readiness of the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct free and fair elections in the state.
The APC candidate and the party executives made this observation when the paid a courtesy visit to the INEC Commissioner in the state, Godwin Kwanga.
In his remarks the state Chairman of the APC, Hon. Latep Daban, said the aim of the visit was to discuss fundamental issues bordering on free and fair election in the state.
Daban said the party wanted to know the total polling units and polling points and their location and the actual number of registered voters based on the Permanent Voter Cards so far distributed in the state so that they will know the number of agents to be used.
He alleged that the party has hints that some people are hoarding the PVCs.
He pointed out that there was allegation of compromise by the INEC to work in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Daban tasked Kwanga to give every party a level playing ground during the election.
Kwanga said he has given everybody the opportunity to access him and allayed the fear of the APC against any negative illusion of favouritism and promised level playing field for all.
He debunked allegations of being posted to the state and influenced to do a hatchet job for any individual or party for the purpose of election.
Kwanga said he has his name and integrity to protect, pointing out that he has conducted elections successfully in other states before Plateau State.
