A former Nigerian diplomat, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola, has hailed Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu II, on his 81st birthday, affirming that the monarch has demonstrated exemplary leadership since his ascension to the throne in 2003.
Isola made this affirmation, in his tribute to the first class King, as he marked another historic year.
The former diplomat noted that birthdays are a celebration of life, a reflection of accomplishments, and a renewal of commitment to service, adding that for Akiolu II, the celebration signifies his continued reign as a visionary and vibrant monarch, guiding his people with wisdom and integrity.
He stressed: “His leadership has been instrumental in shaping Lagos State’s growth and development, fostering peace, progress, and cultural preservation”.
Akiolu’s milestones according to the ex-envoy include: Cultural Preservation. Isola explained that Oba Akiolu II has been a steadfast custodian of Lagos’ rich cultural heritage, promoting traditions and values that define the Yoruba people.
The tribute reads in part: “Community Development: His initiatives have improved the lives of Lagos residents, enhancing social welfare, education, and economic opportunities.
“Peace and Stability: The monarch’s diplomacy and mediation efforts have maintained harmony among diverse ethnic groups in Lagos State.

Ambassador Isola restated that the birthday celebration was testament to the monarch’s enduring legacy and unwavering dedication to the people of Lagos State.
