The Nigeria Governors Forum, led by Governor Jonah Jang, on Saturday described the murder of the Emir of Gwoza in Borno State, Alhaji Idrissa Timta, as an act of callousness.
This was contained in a statement issued by Osaro Onaiwu, the administrator of the NGF secretariat, in Abuja.
The statement quoted Jang, the chairman of the Forum, as saying that the incident was “shocking and unfortunate because the late Emir worked very hard to promote peace and progress.
“We condemn such dastardly acts in very strong terms; it is most irresponsible, despicable, and a clear case of callousness taken to extremities.
“We pray that the Almighty grants the immediate family, members of the Gwoza Emirate Council, the entire people and Government of Borno State, the fortitude to bear this very traumatic loss.
“This is especially at a time the state is still dealing with several other equally disturbing security-related challenges.”
Jang appealed to all Nigerians, especially the people of Borno State, not to be discouraged in the face of intimidation.
“They should continue in their unwavering support for the Federal Government in finding lasting solution to the hydra-headed problem of insurgency in the country,” the statement further quoted him as saying.
Suspected members of the Boko Haram sect on Friday ambushed and killed the Emir on his was to the burial of the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar.
The Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, had said that the body of the Gwoza Emir had been recovered.
Olukolade said the Emirs of Askira, Alhaji Abdullahi Askirama, and that of Uba, Alhaji Ismaila Mamza, who were also involved in the incident, were are in stable condition.
