The Federal Capital Territory Police Command in collaboration with other Security Agencies in the FCT has inaugurated the second phase of a special anti-crime operation, codenamed Operation G-7.
This was contained in a statement by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, on Wednesday in Abuja.
Adeh, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the operation was inaugurated to combat violent crimes in the FCT and other neighbouring states.
She said that the second phase of Operation G-7 was an improvement on the first phase inaugurated earlier in the year.
She said: “The second phase, which is a product of assessment of performance of the first phase, will engender improved inter-agency collaboration, proactive crime prevention and law enforcement activities.
“It will also engender dedicated spirit on the part of the security community to keep the FCT and its neighbouring states safe and secured.”
She said the Commissioner of Police in charge of FCT, Babaji Sunday, said the special operation had become necessary to ensure hitch free Yuletide.
Adeh said the operation was part of preparations by the security community ahead of the festive season.
According to her, the operation has started yielding positive results with the arrest of three suspects over a kidnap incident at Kasanki village in Gwagwalada Area of the FCT on December 12.
She said: “The arrest was made possible following an intelligence-led operation by the operatives of Operation G7.
“The operatives stormed a suspected criminal camp at Gulida village, a border community with Abaji Area Council at about 04:00hrs on Dec. 13 and arrested the suspects with some exhibits.”
Adeh urged the operatives to put in their best to ensure that criminal elements were not given space to operate in FCT.
She enjoined residents to trust and continue to support the police with credible and timely information through 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653 and 08028940883.
Adeh said the Public Complaint Bureau desk could be reached on 09022222352.
