About 20 persons have been confirmed dead in the bomb explosions that occurred this morning at the old site of the Bayero University Kano, Kano State.
At least three bombs were said to have exploded around a lecture theatre where students of the Catholic faith worship in the university.
There are suspicions that high ranking staff of the university, including two professors, died in the attack on the institution.
The attackers, apart from detonating the bombs, also engaged in sporadic shooting. Seven of those who have been confirmed dead are said to be students of the school.
The Executive Secretary of the Kano State Emergency Management Agency, Engineer Abubakar Jibril, told The Eagle Online that at least three bombs were confirmed to have exploded at the old site of BUK.
Jibril said that the agency, as at the time of filing this report, did not have access to the scene of the explosion, hence it could not confirm the extent of the damage done by the explosions, including the number of casualties.
But the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has said that eight persons lost their lives.
The scene of the explosion has been cordoned off by a combined team of the police, the Joint Task Force and the State Security Service.
Movement into the area, including for journalists, has been restricted.
