Two newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, Messrs Michael Zuokumor and Jonathan Johnson, have been charged to see themselves as representatives of the nation and not any part of it.
The call was made on Wednesday in Abuja by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, while decorating the officers with their new rank.
The I-G also decorated three newly elevated Assistant Inspectors-General of Police with their new rank.
They are Fana Salisu, Musa Daura and Kakwe Katso.
Mohammed told the officers: “You represent the entire country and not the part of the country where you come from.”
He urged them to recommit themselves to serve the nation.
He added: “I expect a high sense of responsibility, dedication to service, honesty, faithfulness and being upright at all times.
“Your conduct in and out of office bear on the service.
“You are the first image maker of the police.
“You should watch what you do and what you say.”
With their promotion, Zuokumor and Johnson have joined the police management, which runs the affairs of the force.
The officers represent the South South and North East geopolitical zones in the management.
On December 20, 2013, the Police Service Commission approved the promotion of the two officers to replace DIGs Marvel Akpoyibo and Philemon Ieha, who retired on January 16.
Zuokumor, who spoke for the newly promoted officers, promised to justify the confidence reposed on them.
He said: “We have just entered into a new chapter in our lives.
“We will not fail you.”
