The Oyo State Police Command has arrested the Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Wasiu Olafisoye Akinmoyede, in connection with the murder of a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Temitope Olatoye, popularly known as Sugar.
The development was confirmed by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Olagunju Ojo, on Wednesday.
The arrest of Akinmoyede brings to two the number of those arrested in connection with Olatoye’s murder.
Olatoye, representing Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency, was shot dead on March 9 during the governorship and state Assembly elections in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Ojo said the Arrest of Akinmoyede, who is representing Lagelu State Constituency, was confirmed to the House via a letter.
He, however, said he does not have information on whether the lawmaker had been moved to Abuja as speculated on Wednesday.
He said: “I am not aware that he has been taken to Abuja.
“I am only aware that he is under investigation, but I am not aware whether he has been taken to Abuja or not.”
