The Zamfara State House of Assembly on Monday screened and confirmed a new commissioner nominee, Alhaji Dankande Gamji, whose name was submitted to it on Sunday.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji, said the nominee’s name was submitted via a letter signed by the Secretary of the State Government, Prof. Abdullahi Shinkafi, and dated January 7.
Dankande before his nomination was the Chairman of Bakura Local Government Council of the state and also the state Chairman of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria.
The speaker read the letter at the plenary and took contributions of members before the nominee was cleared same day.
The new commissioner was sworn in by the SSG on behalf of Governor Abdulaziz Yari on the same day.
The event was attended by members of the State Executive Council and other political appointees in the SSG’s office.
The SSG, who said the new commissioner would oversee the Ministry for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, charged him to live up to expectation.
The state scribe also enjoined Dankande to discharge his duties and responsibilities bearing in mind that the state operates the Sharia legal system.
Describing the appointee as a seasoned administrator, the SSG said the state government has strong confidence in his ability to make positive contributions to the development of the state.
Responding, Dankande promised not to fail the people and government of the state.
He would take over from Alhaji Muttaka Rini, who was redeployed to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology as commissioner.
