The National Youth Service Corps Cultural and Tourism Community Development Service Group has hinted of the body’s decision to honour the immediate past Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, with an award for his contributions towards youth empowerment and community development at the first Sagamu ‘Corpers’ luncheon scheduled for October 12, 2017.
In a statement issued by Boladale Sodiq, the President, the group said the decision was based on the unique leadership style and remarkable achievements of Daniel during his two-term tenure as the governor of State.
The statement reads in parts: “We are honoured to write your esteemed self of our acknowledgement and sincere appreciation of the construction of the NYSC Orientation Camp, Sagamu.
“The orientation camp has effectively served its purposes with the conducive atmospheric condition and hospitable state of its location in the Sagamu community. The ‘five-star’ orientation camp has been shortlisted as one of the top five orientation camp in Nigeria and we consider this a remarkable accomplishment associated with your distinguished self as Governor of Ogun state. An official letter will be directed to you to that effect sir.”
It will be recalled that the permanent orientation camp is one of the numerous architectural signposts that characterised the Otunba Gbenga Daniel government between 2003 and 2011.
The camp ground features structures and facilities for paramilitary drills, accommodation rooms, lecture halls, open field for sports, assembly among others and was adjudged to be the best at the time of its commissioning.
