Our target to win NPFL title intact, says Nasarawa United coach

Kabiru Dogo, the Head Coach of Nasarawa United Football Club of Lafia, says his team’s target to win the 2016/2017 Nigerian Professional Football League title remains unshaken, in spite the team’s poor results in the first three games in the league.
Dogo, who gave the assurance in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Lafia, however, expressed disappointment with the team’s two draws and one loss against opposition teams.
He further assured that the current results would not deter his team’s determination to win the NPFL title by the end of the season.
According to him, the management and players of the team have resolved to improve in every aspect of the game to meet the target and fulfil the promise they made to the state government.
Dogo said: “Our target of winning the NPFL title is still strong and intact. From the next match, we will play and things will begin to change.
“I still believe in the team, I believe in myself and I believe in God. With the support of everybody, I know we will achieve the target.”
The Nasarawa United boss said that playing for the first time on the newly renovated pitch of Lafia Township Stadium might have had adverse effect on the players, thereby forcing them to drop points.
He said: “It’s a new pitch, so they have to get used to it.
“There is no way they can play perfectly on it for the first time, but now they are okay.
“Secondly, after the Christmas and New Year celebrations, we did not have any competitive game but now we will improve.”
Dogo commended some new players of the club for adapting to the style of their new team and new environment.
Dogo stated; “It is a gradual process, but I can tell you that some of them are doing very well and others are also fighting hard to impress during training.”
On the home fixture against Remo Stars on Wednesday, Dogo said that the team’s only target would be to get three points.
He said that he would be disappointed if the team fails to get the maximum points from the match.
He said: “Our target is three points; we believe that we are going to get it. It is a home fixture and we don’t want to continue to drop points at home.
“So, we will do our possible best to win the match on Wednesday.”
