The National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers has urged footballers playing in the nation’s leagues to liaise with the Nigeria Football Federation in resolving issues concerning contracts.
A statement by the union on Friday in Lagos said it was disturbed with the news of some clubs holding on to the clearance papers of players whose contracts had expired.
It said NANPF had been informed that some clubs gave clearance to players to write-off their contracts.
The statement also added that some clubs used the accumulated salaries they owe their players as transfer fees with the affected players’ new clubs.
It said: “Any player in the professional or national league with evidence of the expiration of his contract in the just-concluded season can approach the union or the NFF on contract issues.
“We will assist any player to effect the process of his disengagement in case such a player is having issues securing his clearance from his club to further his career.
“We advice players not to fall victims of the current situation by seeking help from the union or professionals in case of doubts regarding their current status with their clubs.”
