Task Force bans processions in Plateau

The Special Task Force on Operation Save Haven, set up to maintain peace in Plateau State, has banned all forms of procession in the state.
The directive was contained in a statement signed by the media officer of the task force, Captain Ikedi Iweha, on Monday in Jos.
According to the statement, only processions approved by the Commissioner of Police would be allowed to hold in the state.
The statement said: “The organisers of such procession must obtain a permit from the police and duly escorted during the procession.”
The statement warned that defaulters of the directive would be held responsible in case of any breakdown of law and order.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the ban was sequel to the violence which broke out during a procession organised by some Shiite members at the weekend.
The violence had led to the loss of one life and destruction of property worth millions of naira.
NAN recalls that the fracas had broken out in some major streets in Jos metropolis, including Gangare, Rikkos, Nasarawa Gwom, Angwan Rogo and Bauchi roads.
