The Chairman, National Convention Committee of the All Progressives Congress and Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, on Thursday said 6,855 delegates would participate in the party’s convention.
Wamakko made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on preparations for the delegates expected at the convention, scheduled for June 13 in Abuja.
He said that the delegates’ convention would ratify the amended APC constitution and elect national officers to administer the affairs of the party in the next four years.
The governor expressed the convention committee’s commitment in conducting transparent election that would meet international best practice.
He added: “As a committee, we have worked hard and long to put in place arrangements for the accreditation of delegates in six different venues according to the six geopolitical zones in the country.
“It is our desire to depart from past experience of rowdiness at the venues of such exercise to demonstrate the transparency of our electoral process.”
According to him, the committee has concluded arrangements with security agencies with a view to ensuring safety of lives and property in and around the convention ground.
Wamakko then urged the security agencies to be “vigilant in nipping any disturbance of peace” and appealed to members of APC to remain steadfast in ensuring peaceful atmosphere.
He said the party was committed to promoting respect for rule of law and entrenchment of deep democratic values in the nation’s politics.
He also reiterated the party’s determination to provide effective governance that would bring succour to Nigerians.
