A 45-year-old truck driver on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly diverting a 40ft container loaded with fabrics (Ankara) worth N150 million.
The defendant, whose residential address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge bordering on stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Emmanuel Ajayi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 22 at 11pm.
The prosecutor said that the defendant and others at large diverted a 40ft container belonging to AUH Global Resources Limited in contravention of Sections 280 and 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, I. O. Raji, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N800,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Raji ordered that one of the sureties must be a relative of the defendant.
She added that the sureties must be gainfully employed and have evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The Magistrate adjourned the case until November 11 for further hearing.
