The development was confirmed by the spokesman of the Command, SP Gambo Isah, to newsmen on Wednesday.

Isah said the student pounded Mohammed with a pestle until she died.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the dispute in Umar’s home had been on for long.

The 300 Level student of the Federal University, Dutsinma, Katsina State had reported his stopmother to his dad over what he described as unacceptable attitude.

The incident, which took place at the Ambassadors Quarters, threw the community into crisis

Isah said that the suspect, who has been reported several times, had a history of drug abuse.

He said: “The Suspect had a misunderstanding with his step mother, Asiya Mohammed, went into the kitchen, grabbed a pestle, hit her severally with it on her head and as a result of which she sustained head injuries and was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

“On the spur of the moment, the suspect also hit his father severally with the said pestle on his leg and sustained fracture in different places on his leg.

“Suspect has been arrested and confessed to the commission of the offence.
