A 21-year-old man, Harisu Abdullahi, was on Tuesday sentenced to death by hanging by a Jos, Plateau State High Court for committing homicide.
Delivering judgment, Justice Mohammed Surajo, said that Abdullahi should die by hanging.
Surajo said: “By the evidences before this court, you, Harisu Abdullahi, of Rikkos Quarters in Jos North Local Government, is hereby found guilty of the offence as charged.
“I hereby sentence you to death by hanging, having committed culpable homicide on April 14, 2010, when you stabbed Abubakar Danlami in the chest.”
The convict did not show remorse after the sentence but his family members burst into tears in court.
The Prosecution Counsel, Justine Manomi, from the Plateau State Ministry of Justice, had told the court that Abdullahi and Danlami were in love with a girl, Suwaiba Yusuf.
Manomi said that on April 14, 2010 when Abdulahi and Danlami met in the house of the girl, there was a misunderstanding during which Abdullahi stabbed Danlamin in the chest.
Manomi told the court that Danlami died shortly after he was stabbed and had since been buried as ordered by the court.
He said that by that act, Abdullahi had committed culpable homicide, punishable under Section 221 of the Penal Code.
