The Peoples Democratic Party in Niger State on Wednesday endorsed Governor Muázu Babangida Aliyu as the sole candidate of Niger East Senatorial District for the 2015 general election.
This development firmly shuts the door against the recently-elected representative of the zone, Senator Shem Zagbayi Nuhu, from seeking reelection.
This is coming on the heels of information that Aliyu has picked the form to vie for the senatorial seat in 2015.
Party chieftains from Niger East Senatorial District made this known at a special North Central Zonal Integration Committee meeting at the state secretariat of the party in Minna.
During the meeting, presided over by Alhaji Mamman Gambo, the Vice Chairman of the PDP, Barrister Tanko Beji and the nine PDP local government chairmen and their secretaries resolved to zone all the elective and appointive offices zoned to the senatorial district to the three emirates in the zone.
Declaring the meeting open, the state Vice chairman of the PDP for Niger East, Alhaji Gambo, and the Deputy Chairman informed other stakeholders that by the zoning arrangement in the state, the senatorial district is to produce a senator, the speaker of the state assembly and a minister.
Speaking on behalf of the nine local government chairmen of the PDP, Yakubu Garba, the chairman of Gurrara local government PDP and the chairman of the senatorial PDP chairmen’s forum, disclosed that after extensive deliberations, the forum agreed to zone the sole senatorial ticket to Minna emirate, the ministerial slot to Suleja and Speaker of the state Assembly to Kagara emirate respectively.
Garba said the decisions were taken towards ensuring equity, justice and fair play to enable the party come out victorious in the coming general election.
This position was also collaborated by Alhaji Shehu Ahmadu, the chairman of the PDP Zone B senatorial secretaries’ forum.
However, in a mild drama at the conference hall, the Chairman of Minna local government council PDP, Alhaji Shehu Gomina, took guests off guards when he pleaded with other stakeholders to allow Governor Babangida Aliyu become the sole candidate from Minna emirate council.
Although most stakeholders at the meeting spoke in support of the motion, but the state vice chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Mamman Gambo, urged the local government chairmen to consult other five local governments PDP chairmen in the emirate to build consensus as he appealed.
Meanwhile, the only female aspirant from the PDP vying for a seat in the state House of Assembly from Chanchaga constituency, Hajia Fati Abubakar, has warned that anti-party activities could mar the chances of the party in winning the 2015 general elections.
The one time state House of Assembly member made this known at the state PDP secretariat in Minna when she picked nomination form to represent her constituency.
