2015: Caution politicians against violence, political acrimony, Egbas in diaspora urge Alake

As the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, marks his 70th birthday, the Egbas in the diaspora have urged the traditional ruler to use the occasion to caution politicians against acts that could lead to violence, political acrimony and probably disrupt the 2015 elections.
The Egbas, under the aegis of Olumo Progressive Association, Canada, equally tasked Oba Gbadebo to demand from the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the establishment of cottage industries to stimulate economic activities and job creation.
The association, in a congratulatory letter signed by its President, Caxton Idowu, and General Secretary, Omotunde Balogun, charged the paramount ruler to plead with politicians to focus more on issues rather than personalities during next election.
“Our highly revered royal father, we equally appeal to you to urge our politicians to focus on issues rather than personalities, eschew violence, acrimony, and conduct themselves peacefully as the 2015 election approaches in our country,” OPA pleaded in the letter made available to our correspondent.
The letter added: “It is our belief, also, that considering your high profile among the comity of traditional rulers not only in Yorubaland but Nigeria you should demand from the various political parties to present credible candidates, and our people, too, to elect people of unquestionable characters who will bring about socio-economic and political developments not only in Egbaland, but Ogun State in particular and Nigeria in general.
“Similarly and specifically, Kabiyesi, it is our desire to passionately plead with you to use this occasion to demand from the present government in Ogun State the urgent need to help in the socio-economic and political developments of Egbaland, specifically the establishment of cottage industries to stimulate economic activities and job creation, while also not forgetting the need to promote peace and ensure adequate security.”
The body of Egba indigenes stressed that under the paramount ruler, Egbaland had witnessed “noticeable development” which, according to the association, was due to Oba Gbadebo’s “unalloyed and profound commitment to ensure growth – under your reign – in the town, which, from available records, has been playing leading and pivotal roles in the Nigerian nationhood.”
The association, which said the Egbas in Canada, and the United States of America were happy to identify with Oba Gbadebo’s rulership on his birthday anniversary, prayed for the monarch’s good health, long life and prosperity and Solomon’s sagacity in the administration of Egbaland for prosperity and growth.
“Kabiyesi, we are, indeed, equally glad to congratulate you, and your entire family, on this special and memorable occasion due to the meteoric development witnessed, and we are still witnessing, in Egba Kingdom since your ascension to the prestigious throne of your forebears,” the association stressed.
