Hon. Zakari Mohammed, the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, on Monday said the lower chamber was committed to producing a budget that would impact positively on Nigerians.
Mohammed (APC-Kwara) told the News Agency of Nigeria in Gure, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, that the House was keen on giving the country a sound budget that could be implemented seamlessly.
He said that the six-man committee set up by the Speaker, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, was to look into the constitutionality of the objection raised by lawmaker during last week’s debate on the budget.
He said: “Don’t forget that people usually think that when the election year is around, we forget about governance and face politicking.
“Now we are to face governance because we still have well some months before the election.
“We must deliver on the promises we made to the people and there must be value for their money.
“There must be value for their time and energy they spent in electing us.
“I must tell you that all the drama that is going on is all geared toward getting the best out of the 2014 budget.
“As much as the budget is important, where questions must be asked, we must ask questions where necessary.”
Mohammed also dismissed speculations that lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress were set to block the passage of the 2014 appropriation bill.
