No fewer than 20 persons died in multiple auto crashes on Sallah eve in Kwara State.
The accidents occurred on Thursday on the Oloru-Jebba Road.
The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, described the multiple accidents at a time the state was still nursing the wounds of flooding in parts of the state, as shocking and unfortunate.
Ahmed, in a condolence message to the families of the victims, prayed God to give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Ahmed lamented that the accidents were indications of the urgent need for collaboration between the federal and state governments on the repair and maintenance of federal roads in the state.
According to the governor, the extent of poor states of federal roads traversing the length and breath of the state has become so worrisome, that the federal government must act urgently and decisively.
“It has, therefore, become so imperative that there must be a synergy between the federal and state governments on the repair of federal roads through joint funding while the states should take over ownership of the roads for proper maintenance,” the governor added.
Ahmed assured the people of the state that no efforts will be spared to fix the various roads across the state within the ambit of available resources.
