Eighteen students on Thursday in Lagos collapsed after inhaling what has been identified as a poisonous gas.
The students, of Ogba Primary and Secondary Schools, were rushed to a nearby hospital at about 1pm on Thursday after they collapsed in school.
The Eagle Online correspondent witnessed officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Services rushing the students, in batches, to the hospital close to Retail Market in Ogba.
Lagos State Government officials have also closed the school and the adjoining Arcade Shopping Complex, Ogba.
The Eagle Online gathered that the officials suspect that the gas came from one of the offices in the complex.
This is the second time within one year that the same fate would befall the school.
Last year, about 10 students of the schools were also rushed to the hospital after they collapsed in the same fashion.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency told the News Agency of Nigeria that the affected children included 12 females and a male.
The agency’s General Manager, Dr. Femi Oke-Osayintolu, said that the affected children had been taken to the Ikeja General Hospital for treatment.
Oke-Osayintolu said the other children had also been evacuated from the school.
The general manager said that those in the hospital were being taken care of by the state government and that they were responding to treatment.
Oke-Osayintolu said that offices and shops around the area had been closed, while rescue operation was still ongoing.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim, Farinloye, the Information Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency, told NAN that his organisation was aware of the incident and would assist.
