The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts and candidate of the All Progressives Congress for Lagos West Senatorial District in the upcoming National Assembly election, Hon. Solomon Adeola, has stated that a 100 percent Permanent Voter Cards collection before the elections is not possible due to a variety of reasons.
Speaking to hundreds of APC youth leaders from Lagos West Senatorial District who paid him a solidarity visit ahead of the March 28, 2015 election, Adeola said from the statistics of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Lagos State has attained 81 per cent PVC collection, adding that the collection rate will definitely improve further before the end of time allotted for collection.
He said: “It is not possible to have a 100 per cent PVC collection.
“Lagos has attained 81 per cent as at last count.
“Some people would have been deceased while others like Youth Corp members would have relocated from where they registered and may not want to make effort to go to their old location.”
Adeola those complaining or petitioning on the PVC collection at this point are not prepared for election and only dreading their imminent defeat at the polls.
Adeola urged the youth leaders to continue to preach for those with PVCs not to sell their cards as some political parties are bent on disenfranchising even those that already have PVCs for nefarious ends.
He said he is going to organize for the first time in the history of the district a youth symposium with eminent resource persons as a way of identifying problems confronting the youth and a channel for empowerment schemes.
He called on the youth to work hard for the desired change that is coming, adding that since the advent of our nascent democracy in 1999, this is the first time the opposition is far ahead of the ruling party in popularity and rating by reputable polling organisations.
The leader of the Youth in Lagos West, Lukmon Jimoh, said the APC youth in the district are poised to deliver all wards in the district to the party as the people are tired of the Peoples Democratic Party rulership.
