In Niger East Senatorial District (Zone B), the All Progressives Congress senatorial candidate, Barrister David Umaru, humbled the Governor of Niger State, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in a landslide victory.
While Umaru polled 257,831 votes, Aliyu had 82,094 votes.
The breakdown as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Returning Officer, Prof. Ali Audu Jigam, showed that in Chanchaga Local Government Area, the APC scored 49,519 against the PDP’s 17,209.
In Gurara LGA, APC got 18,887, while the PDP got 6,591.
In Shiroro LGA, APC scored 27,191 and PDP 7,591.
The APC scored 17,596 leaving the PDP with 8,151 in Tafa LGA.
In Bosso LGA, the APC scored 36,250 while the PDP had 7,060.
In Suleja LGA, the APC scored 34,326 leaving the PDP with 12,648, while in Munya LGA, the APC won with 13,666 votes, with PDP having 6,635.
Also in Paikoro LGA, the APC had 26,724 votes, leaving the PDP with 8,989 and in Rafi LGA, APC scored 33,675 and the PDP 7,363.
With this total score from the nine LGAs under Niger East Senatorial District (Zone B), Umaru, who scored a total 257,831 votes, was declared winner by Jigam over Aliyu of the PDP who scored only 82,094 votes.
According to the Returning Officer, a total 354,526 voters were registered, with 342,934 as total votes cast and 11,592 declared as rejected.
