The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Ekiti State on Monday said it had arrested a police corporal and five other suspects over alleged vandalism.
The suspects allegedly vandalised a fibre optic cable belonging to a telecommunications company operating in the country.
A statement issued in Ado-Ekiti by the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC in the state, Afolabi Tolulope, described the suspects as those that had consistently been wreaking havoc on public utilities in Ikere Ekiti.
The statement also said the suspected police officer was serving in the Oyo State Police Command before he was apprehended.
The NSCDC statement said the officer and his gang members were arrested by soldiers serving in Ikere Ekiti in a tunnel after rigorous combing of a surrounding bush.
It said a Nissan Micra with registration Number AK 275 LND and other equipment were recovered from the suspects.
The statement said those arrested would soon be charged to court.
It warned electrical and communication contractors as well as vendors in the state to desist from buying vandalised cables.
