A Pharmacologist, Prof. Noel Wannang, on Wednesday said fruits and vegetables have been discovered to increase erection in males.
The professor of Neuropharmacology and Toxicology, University of Jos, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria in Jos.
Wannang listed spinach, walnut, bananas and water melon, among others, as some of the useful fruits and vegetables.
Wannang said it was unfortunate that such natural foods were despised because of social status and affluence.
The expert said such increase in erection by males by these natural foods was a sure signal for fertility and reproduction.
He noted that many foods and beverages in our contemporary society have colours that are a delight to watch but said such food might be poisonous to the body system.
He said: “Many foods and beverages have colours and are a delight to watch.
“We assume that they are innocuous, unfortunately, they are not.
“We conducted a study on the effects of some food colorants and additives and discovered that tartrazine, a popular colorant with pleasant sight purchased at shops in Jos and used in eateries caused an increase in mortality rate in rats.
“Tissue histology revealed degeneration in the liver and lungs similar to what is seen in cancer. Administration to this colorant to rats increased their body weight.
“There was also an enlargement of the spleen, kidney and liver.”
Wannang further explained that the colorant gave a corresponding increase in the organ weight of the kidney, spleen, heart, liver and lungs which are manifestations of toxicity.
He advised that eating natural food and fruits are the best way to have a long life span devoid of health challenges.
