No fewer than five persons are feared feared killed after security operatives attached to the pipeline protection team and vandals clashed at Ibafo, Ogun State.
The clash occurred on Monday.
According to sources, the face-off began at about 5:30pm and lasted for about an hour.
Those who died were were said to be residents hit by stray bullets.
One of the dead was, however, said to be a vandal.
The vandals were said to have stormed Ibafo from Arepo, a neighbouring community, ahead of the operation.
They reportedly ran into operatives of the joint Taskforce on anti-pipeline vandalism, codenamed Operation AWATSE.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, said only was person was killed.
Adejobi saidL “The police confirm that one person was killed and another injured.
“The clash was between security operatives protecting pipelines and vandals.
“It started around 5:30pm and lasted for almost an hour.”
