Alhaji Mustapha Maihaja, a governorship aspirant on the APC platform in Yobe State, on Tuesday said he was barred from entering Damaturu to submit his nomination form at the party’s secretariat.
Addressing newsmen on Tuesday at an outskirt of Damaturu, Maihaja accused the authorities of using the security operatives to frustrate his political ambition “which is against the APC ideology”.
According to him, the National Organising Secretary of the party has directed him to summit his nomination form in Damaturu, to enable him to participate in the forthcoming governorship primaries in the state.
He said: “The purpose of my visit to Damaturu, in company of my teeming supporters, is to summit my APC governorship nomination form at the party’s secretariat but unfortunately, the security personnel have barricaded the road.”
Maihaja said that no matter the level of intimidation, nothing would stop him from pursuing his political ambition.
Maihaja expressed determination to provide better leadership to the people of the state if elected into power.
He said that his regime would give special attention to education, youth empowerment and health sector, to enhance the living condition of the people.
A policeman who pleaded anonymity, said they were acting on directive from the police command.
He said: “We are acting based on directive from the above.”
Also commenting, the state acting Chairman of All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Adamu Chillariye, said the aspirant did not inform the party that he was coming to summit his nomination form.
Chillariye said: “Nobody informed us that a governorship aspirant under our great party is coming to the secretariat to submit his nomination form.
“In fact, as leader of APC in Yobe State, I have never met him in person.
“I don’t know anything about his personality.”
Chillariye, however, expressed the party’s commitment to provide level playing ground to all aspirants.
The party’s secretariat was locked as there was nobody to receive the aspirant.
