Uncommon favour at the weekend trailed the Delta state Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s Chief of Staff, Dr. Festus Okubor’s declaration to succeed him next year.
The Chief of Staff was endorsed for the governorship race at the caucus meeting of the Delta Oshobe 2015 Group (DOG), held in Agbarho, Delta Central axis of the state.
Oshobe, comprising PDP stalwarts in the state, simply means “all hands must be on desk if a particular project must succeed” is being sponsored by the Governor’s Director-General in the Waste Management Board, Chief Olori Magege.
A communiqué issued at the end of the caucus meeting did not only endorse Okubor for the race but described him as the most perfect man for the job.
Having considered and accepted Okubor’s profile, the caucus declared unalloyed support for him and painstakingly resolved to work assiduously to deliver him next year.
“That if elected, you (Okubor) will consolidate and continue the Uduaghan project is not in doubt. Few in government of Delta today has the kind of first hand practical knowledge of Delta governance that you possess over 16 years of your close involvement in governance at all levels in the state you never received a query whatsoever. Who therefore is eminently qualified than you?” a copy of the communiqué made available to the Eagle online read.
Accepting the offer when the leadership of the group besieged his country home at the weekend in Boji-Boji Owa, Ika North-East Locla Government Area of the state, to present a copy of the communiqué to him, Okubor said if elected, he would abhor ethnic division and bigotry but hold the supremacy of the ruling PDP in sacrosanct.
He however tasked the group, comprising delegates from the 25 council areas of the state not to be deterred by the faces of the numerous contestants.
He said, “very soon, my interest will not be for fancy. I will unfold other blueprint for the deve lopment of the state when the time comes. I will on the condition that you will run with me. I will on the condition that you will go out there to tell the leadership of our party, including my boss, who is the conscience of the party in the state that I should run.”
Olori Magege, who presented the communiqué vowed to garner support that would stimulate his overall choice as the preferred candidate of the party that would bring about his dream of industrial revolution in Delta a reality.
He said, “we will work tirelessly for you, so that those who doubt our capability to deliver you will be put to shame next year.”
