Zamfara to sanction contractors over breach of agreements

The Zamfara State Government has threatened to sanction contractors handling road projects in the state if they failed to comply with contract agreements.
The Chairman of the state Projects Monitoring Committee, Alhaji Lawal Liman, said this on Saturday while inspecting the 22 kilometres ongoing Kyambarawa-Nahuche-Lambar Nahuche Road project.
Nahuche Construction Company, an indigenous construction company, is handling the project.
Liman, who is also the state Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, said the state government was not happy with the performance of some companies handling the road projects in the state.
He said: “We noted that some of the contractors were not complying with the contract agreements.
“Some are executing shoddy jobs, while some are too slow.
“It is very unfortunate the way some construction firms are handling road projects in the the state.
“If you look at the level and quality of some roads, it is not encouraging.
“Despite the efforts of the government by releasing money in time to them, some contractors are no justifying this because if you look at the level of their work, it is not up to expectation.”
Liman said government would no longer tolerate that, adding: “We are calling on them to redouble their efforts in handling their works or risk sanctions.”
He said the aim of the present administration in the state under Governor Abdul’aziz Yari was to complete all its ongoing road projects by 2018.
He said: ““You know when Yari came in as governor in this state, he met various uncompleted road projects.
“God’s willing, we have completed all the inherited projects.
“We have also awarded new ones.
“Our aim is to complete all of them before the end of his second term.”
While commenting on the level of performance of Nahuche Construction Company, the commissioner said the state government was not satisfied with the quality and level work done by the firm so far.
He said: “The level of work done by the company is not encouraging if you compare with the amount of money given to it by the state government.
“We are going to present this issue to the state council meeting for the government to take action on the company.”
Responding, the Chairman of Nahuche Construction Company, Alhaji Nabature Nahuche, pleaded with the state government to assist him with additional fund to enable him complete the work.
The committee also assessed the maintenance work at Wanke-Danjibga-Kucheri Road in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.
