The Deputy Governor of Yobe State, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, was on Monday involved in an accident at Dakatsalle town in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State.
An eyewitness told the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano that the incident occurred around 1pm when a vehicle on high speed hit his official car.
According to the witness who preferred anonymity, Aliyu’s convoy had made a brief stop over at the town during which the incident happened.
He said the driver of the private vehicle was trying to avoid a mad man who was loitering on the road, adding: “It was in the process of avoiding the lunatic that the driver of the vehicle lost control and hit the official car of the Deputy Governor.”
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, Aminu Umar, confirmed the incident.
Umar said: “The incident happened but it was a minor one because there was no loss of life and nobody sustained any injury.
“The Deputy Governor is now at the Government House, Kano to condole Governor Abdullahi Ganduje over the death of his mother.”
