A middle age today was found dangling from a tree at the Isheri Olofin area in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.
It is believed that she tied a rope to a tree and hanged herself. Strangely, residents said they had never seen the deceased before. Thus the reason for her death is unknown.
The incident took place at No, 31 Bankole Street, in front of a welder’s workshop, opposite Isheri Grammer School.
The dangling body was discovered by a residents who was going for the Muslim early morning prayer.
“After the prayer we went around the town and inform everybody about the development, while those who have the emergency number of the Lagos State Emergency Agency were asked to put a call across to their office.”
When our correspondent visited the scene, officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), Nigerian Security, Civil Defence Corp and men of the Nigerian Police Force from Isheri Division were all on ground.
According to the General Manager of LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke Osanyintolu, “ We received a distressed call from the residents of Isheri Olofin about a woman who committed suicide in the community.We rushed to scene of the incident and found a middle age woman who have committed suicide. Her body was dangling in front a welder work shop and the body was removed to Lagos Mainland Mortuary Hospital.
Some members in the community however stopped the officials from bringing down the corpse until a ritual was perform by them. LASEMA granted them their wish.
