The development was confirmed by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, which responded to the call.
The agency’s spokesman, Nosa Okunbor, stated that the boat sank after departing from the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency confirmed the incident in a statement, adding that the agency rescued seven passengers and recovered one dead adult male that was killed as a result of the accident.
Zonal Coordinator, South-West of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the development to newsmen in Lagos.
The fire incident, which started at midnight, occurred nine days before Christmas.
The decision to mourn the victims followed a point of order raised by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (APC, Lagos West).
LASEMA, in a statement on Facebook, titled, ‘LASEMA battles Ladipo Mushin Gas explosion,’ said it has deployed its Response Team, Eagle Squad at Cappa to contain the situation.
Hamzat, in company of cabinet members, said 10 bodies were removed from the rubbles after an overnight search and rescue operation by a combined team of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), with the support of construction giants, Julius Berger and China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC).
The personnel of the corps attached to the Oshodi-Isolo divisional area of the state, at about 22:30hrs swiftly responded to a fire explosion, which occurred at Oke – Afa, Ejigbo, Lagos.

A statement by the Route Commander, FRSC Public Education Officer, Olabisi Sonusi, said the accident involved a 20-feet containerized Mack truck with two different registration numbers: LSD 973 XM and FKJ 214 XY; and two other vehicles – a Toyota wagon with registration number JJJ 28 FR and Toyota Camry with registration number BDG 597 CY.
The agency’s Director General, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said in a statement that the accident occurred when an oil tanker loaded with 45,000 litres of PMS crashed into two containerised trucks.
The director-general of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, however, said in a statement that “a combined team comprising of agency LRT, LRU fire, Lagos State and Federal Fire Services” were able to subdue the fire and prevented it from spreading to the surrounding buildings.
The explosion happened on Monday night after the driver reportedly lost control of the tanker when the break failed. The tanker was said to have loaded at Abule Ado.
