The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has offered the reason why the fire that engulfed the main auditorium of Christ Embassy Church Headquarters, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos State escalated.
Margret Adeseye, Director, LSFRS, revealed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Lagos.
Adeseye said the fire impacted the main auditorium of the church.
She said that the fire escalated because the church’s fire service thought they could handle the situation by themselves without recourse to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
She said the cause of the fire could not be ascertained at the moment until after proper investigation.
The Eagle Online is reporting from the scene of the fire that security operatives have been drafted to safeguard the property.
Security operatives, including those of the Nigerian Army and Nigeria Police Force, were seen at the scene by the Senior Video Editor of The Eagle Online Nigeria YouTube Channel, Nsikak-Abasi David Oko-Obio.
The highly rated videographer learnt that the security operatives were deployed to prevent the looting of the church’s property, most of which were not affected by the fire outbreak.
Oko-Obio told The Eagle Online: “There was no longer access to the scene of the fire so we could not ascertain the cause of the fire.
“Security operatives, including soldiers, have been deployed.

“We were told that strange looking people who were ostensibly out to loot the church’s property were sighted around and this necessitated the need to deploy security operatives.
“But as at that time, the fire had subsided.”
