One of the foiled clashes was between two Muslim sects, the Derika and Izala, at Agege.
The cause of clash, according to sources, was that the two sects met at one Alhaji Tanko Praying Ground to listen to the Qaran recitation but way into the preaching, one Mallam Ibrahim Ahmed, a Togolese from the Izala sect, was alleged to have made derogatory statements about the Derika sect, calling the preaching idolatory.
It was gathered the the statement infuriated the Derika sect members who allegedly pounced on Ahmed.
This resulted ina free for all, with broken bottles and other dangerous weapons used.
It took the timely intervention of the police to bring the situation under control.
The police, led by the ‘Area G’ Commander, quickly restored peace to the area and arrested Ahmed, putting him in protective custody as he was about to be lynched.
It was gathered that more than five persons have been arrested for alleged breach of peace in the state.
