The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, says his government will continue to commit resources to the health sector in order to meet the health needs of the citizenry.
Governor Ahmed stated this on Tuesday in Ilorin at the flag off of the distribution of free hearing aids to Hearing Impaired People of Kwara State, organised by Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation and Starkey Hearing Foundation.
Speaking through the State Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Sulaiman Alege, the Governor said the distribution of hearing at aids was a follow up to the July exercise where not less than six hundred patients were booked for hearing aids.
Ahmed commended the initiative of the foundations for effort to attend to the needs of the hearing impaired, which he said is one of the critical areas of human need.
He urged the beneficiaries to handle the hearing aids with care with a view to making them derive maximum value for the money expended by the state government and the foundations.
In his message to the occasion, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold, recalled that the government had earlier sponsored some officials to the Green Legacy Resort of Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation in Abeokuta, Ogun State for a training programme on the art of mastering the needed assistance to the hearing impaired people.
In his remarks, the leader of Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation, Dr. Olalekan Makinde, said the programme was part of the efforts of the foundation at touching lives across the African continent.
Makinde appreciated the Kwara State Government and other partners in providing aids to hearing impaired patients in the state.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Yusuf Odeniyi thanked the state government, Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation and Starkey Hearing Foundation for coming to their aid through the provision of free hearing impaired aids.
