We have not moved office – NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress has said it has not changed its office in Abuja that serves as the national headquarters owing to the threat by Boko Haram to bomb it.
Boko Haram issued a threat to bomb the secretariat of the NLC and kill its President, Abdulwaheed Omar, following the congress’s decision to concede to the government the new pump price of petrol of N97 instead of sticking to its guns of outright reversal to N65 from N141.

Rather, what the NLC has done is to beef up security at the secretariat.
The Deputy President of the NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, who spoke with The Eagle Online on Wednesday, said the report that the congress was moving into a guest house close to the current secretariat was not true.
Ajaero, however, said it is not impossible that some affiliate unions of the NLC are making use of guest houses for their activities.
Ajaero, who is based in Lagos, said: “I can confirm to you that we are still making use of the secretariat of the NLC in Abuja.
“On Tuesday, the National Administrative Council of the NLC met at the secretariat from 9am to 8pm.
“That body is made up of the NLC president, the acting General Secretary and other elected members of the NLC.
“Of course we make use of hotels when we are in Abuja.
“We first pay for these hotels and we are then reimbursed by the congress.”
Ajaero also said that other meetings were held at the NLC secretariat on Wednesday.
He, however said that security checks at the secretariat is on the increase owing to the threat by Boko Haram.
He said: “The only thing I can tell you is that security checks at the Labour House has been beefed up.
“Vehicles are now screened before they are allowed into the premises.”
