Jenkins Alumona, the Managing Director of Flykite Productions, organisers of the just-concluded GOtv Boxing Night, on Tuesday said there would be two more boxing night fights in the year.
Alumona told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the level of successes recorded during the nights had given the firm the confidence to host more competitions.
He said: “We are happy at the successes achieved in this edition, which is the third edition of the boxing nights.
“It requires a lot of paper work, promoters and logistics to put things in place to host the boxing nights.
“We may not be able to tell you the exact dates now because a contract has to be signed and the boxers have to be contacted.”
Alumona said the GOtv competition had yet to reach its goal, expressing optimism that it would continue to grow.
He said: “We have a belief that at the rate we are going, we will revive boxing in Nigeria to the height it used to be in the very near future.
“We have plans to engage our local boxers in world championship fights.
“This will take a lot of planning, but it is achievable.
“As long as we have Gotv to back us up and many other sponsors come in to throw their weight, we will achieve remarkable success.”
NAN reports that no fewer than 12 boxers squared for a showdown at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos State on July 26.
