With the incessant attacks on political campaigns and rallies in the country, the Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, on Monday said: “If this continues, it may disrupt the peaceful conduct of the February general elections.”
Aliyu stated this when he paid a visit to the Emir of Kagara, Alhaji Garba Attahiru, during a stop over of the gubernatorial campaign team of the Peoples Democratic Party at Kagara town in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.
Aliyu also said the call for change is unnecessary as it may stop the continuity of development in the nation.
He however called on political parties to call their supporters to order, stating that violence would not solve any problem as the people would still have to live together after the elections.
According to him: “After the elections, we will all have to live together.
“So we should not do things that will further divide the country.
“I plead with political leaders to call their supporters to other.
“The call for change now is unnecessary as President Goodluck Jonathan still has a lot of things to do for the nation.
“The change the people are agitating for would take a long time to catch up as he has stayed long out of office.
“The call for change is unnecessary.
“If someone has stayed long out of office, it will take him another four years to learn if he gets to office before he can finally catch up.”
Aliyu, while commending the Emir for his peaceful reign in office, pleaded with him to talk to his people to join the winning team.
He said: “Please plead with Kagara people not to leave PDP.
“Help us tell them to join the winning team.”
In his response, the Emir said he would continue to pray for the peace of the country.
