Vatican, Al-Azhar sign document on fighting extremism – Arabia TV

The Vatican and Egypt’s Al-Azhar mosque and university signed on Monday a document on fighting extremism, Al Arabiya TV reported.
The document was signed in the United Arab Emirates capital Abu Dhabi, during the historic visit of Pope Francis to the Arabian peninsula, which he hopes will foster peace through religious dialogue.
Pope Francis has called for an end to war and condemned those who commit violence in the name of religion.
“War cannot create anything but misery, weapons bring nothing but death,” the pope said, addressing an inter-religious meeting attended by hundreds of representatives from different faiths.
“I am thinking in particular of Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Libya,” he added.
He also said: “Every form of violence must be condemned without hesitation… No violence can be justified in the name of religion.”
