In keeping with the spirit of this age of phenomenal leaps in science and technology, the University of Lagos Engineering Society is to hold its maiden edition of the Prof. Ayodele Awojobi Design Competition on Friday.
In a statement by the Chairman Planning Committee, Abah Anthony Abah, the competition’s grand finale will hold by 9am at the J. F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium (Main Auditorium) of the University of Lagos, Nigeria.
The statement added that the competition aims at sparking ingenuity in the minds of youths to solve societal problems.
The statement said: “Dozens of applications poured in from tertiary institutions all over the country, and the five most innovative designs have passed through two stages of screening to present at the grand finale.
“Every beating Nigerian heart pulses with the dream of seeing our beloved nation live up to her full potential. True to this dream, as the world moves forward, our youth are getting bolder.
“The competition is a medium through which we can honour, and further immortalize the memory of Professor Ayodele Oluwatuminu Awojobi, a Nigerian academic, inventor, social activist, crusader and erudite scholar of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lagos..”
Abah added that the competition is intended to improve the self-reliance of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in terms of indigenous technology.
The Chairman planning Committee implored the public to “join us on this journey, as we make history in breaking ground for indigenous technology to rival world standards. More information is available on our website, www.unilagengr.com.ng/paadc”.
