The Senator-Elect of Niger East Senatorial District, Barrister David Umaru, on Sunday assured the people of his constituency that he will work twice as hard to keep the trust bestowed on him by the people of the zone.
Umaru said in a chat with journalists in Minna that he will not just be their senator but their champion.
According to him: “I will live their lives and feel their pains.
“By voting for me, the people have chosen to share their hopes and dream with me.
“They have decided that it is safe to put their faith in my ability to fight for them.
“I want them to know this: I will not just be their senator.
“I shall be there champion.”
Umaru explained that he had come a long way with the Niger State electorate since 2007, adding: “Ever since then, they have been shortchanged, but they have kept faith and persevered believing that change is possible and truth will prevail.
“Today, we are singing a new song, a song of victory.”
Umaru urged the people to cultivate a new spirit of patriotism, service and responsibility, while promising to provide a leadership that inspires and of accountability.
The senator-elect added: “We must all roll up our sleeves and be prepared to make sacrifices, ready to work harder and be willing to look not only after ourselves but after each other.”
While promising to attract federal presence to the constituency, he assured them that he will interact frequently and freely with the constituent towards initiating, proposing and supporting legislations that will address the problems of the constituency.
The senator elect appreciated the efforts of the All Progressives Congress and his supporters who worked tirelessly for the victory, adding: “Hands should be on deck to rescue Niger State from the shackles of oppression of the Peoples Democratic Party government.”
