Two persons have been confirmed dead in a flood in Kumo, headquarters of Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, after a heavy rainfall.
Danlami Rukuje, the Executive Secretary of the Gombe State Emergency Management Agency, made this known while briefing newsmen on Thursday.
Represented by the Head of Rescue and Rehabilitation Unit of the agency, Malam Muhammad Garba, Rukuje said the flood affected some houses and commercial areas in eight communities in the area.
He said the agency responded immediately it received the information of the incident and had assessed the damage done.
He said: ““On arrival, the assessment team found out that the worst affected areas are Anguwan Direbobi, Bayan Secretariat, Anguwan Sarkin Yaki, Dakkiti, Burunde, Garin Alkali, Bare Tashan Magarya and Atiku Distrct.
“All together, 150 houses were affected and two persons lose their lives in the disaster.”
Rukuje said talthough no house was destroyed, foodstuff such as grains and furniture were damaged.
He said a report had been submitted to state government for any possible assistance to the victims of the flood and urged the victims to the incident as an act of God.
