US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said the biggest enemy facing the United States is fake news amid some media outlets’ criticism of the summit between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore.
“So funny to watch the fake news, especially NBC and CNN,’’ Trump said via Twitter.
He added: “500 days ago they would have begged for this deal, looked like war would break out. Our country’s biggest enemy is the fake news so easily promulgated by fools!”
On Tuesday, Trump and Kim met in Singapore and signed a final document that includes an agreement to establish new bilateral relations between the U.S. and North Korea as well as join efforts to build a lasting and stable peace regime on the Korean peninsula.
Moreover, North Korea reaffirmed under the terms of the agreement its commitment to denuclearise the Korean peninsula while the U.S. pledged to provide security guarantees.
The networks pointed out that North Korea has not agreed to a full and verifiable disarmament.
The criticism was echoed by a number of US lawmakers, who said the US walked out of the summit with only vague promises from Kim.
Trump said in his message that the media outlets have made all efforts to downplay the agreement signed at the conclusion of the summit in Singapore.
The US president defended the results of the Singapore summit by saying it was the first step toward more significant progress in achieving denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.
Trump said the Singapore summit was one of many meeting with Kim and promised to invite the North Korean leader to the White House for another meeting in the near future.
