 The notice of Appeal was filed on its behalf by  Babajide Koku (SAN), leading  Victor Ogude (SAN), Kehinde Wilkey, and Aanuoluwapo Babalola.

The Court ruled that administrative and regulatory bodies could not exercise judicial powers.

Justice James Omotosho, in a judgment, dismissed all the grounds put forward by the NBC, describing them as “an afterthought.”

NBC Director-General, Balarabe Shehu llelah, gave the warning in a letter to the Chief Executive Officer of Arise Global Limited and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria Saturday in Abuja.

Yaba College of Technology, Lagos has approached the National Broadcasting Commission signifying her interest to own and operate a television station.

Its reaction to the Wednesday ruling by Justice James Omotosho is contained in a statement signed by its Director General, Balarabe Shehu Illelah.

Justice Nkeonye Evelyn Maha granted MRA leave to apply to the court to compel the NBC to make available to it the information it requested after hearing arguments from the organization’s lawyers in two separate ex parte motions in which it complained that the Commission had failed to respond to two separate applications for information – the first dated February 17, 2023 and signed by Maimuna Momoh, a Programme Officer at MRA; and a second letter dated February 20, 2023 and signed by Monday Arunsi, MRA’s Legal Officer.

This wass contained in a letter addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of the television station and dated March 27.

 The President-Elect, Asíwájú Bola Tinubu has petitioned the National Broadcasting Commission NBC, urging it to sanction Channels Television for allegedly breaching the Nigerian Broadcasting Code.

Joined in the suit by the rights group as Defendant is Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture.

The media body made the demand of the National Assembly in a statement it issued in the early hours of Monday.

The fifth and sixth editions of the NBC Trade Fair which held in Lagos and Abuja attracted over 30,000 shoppers and had over 375 entrepreneurs exhibit, increase sales and gain visibility of their products and services. 

According to available information, they were seen around Mutu village, Mada District, Gusau Local Government area.

Seguin made this known in a statement issued on Friday on the 2022 NBC Stakeholders’ Forum in Lagos State.

The Managing Director of the Company, Matthieu Seguin, said this at the 3rd edition of the annual NBC Stakeholders Forum.

MRA is asking the Court to declare the NBC’s failure to provide it with the information it requested a breach of its right of access to information as well as a flagrant violation of the FOI Act and to order the Commission to pay it N1 million as exemplary and aggravated damages for unlawfully denying it the information.

In a request made pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, 2011 and signed by MRA’s Communications Officer,  Idowu Adewale, the organization asked the NBC to provide it with a list of all broadcasting stations and platforms operating in Nigeria licensed by the Commission and the amount that each of the licensed stations is required to pay as licence fees.

Governor AbdulRahman  AbdulRazaq gave the  approval for the immediate payment of the debt to the commission.

Joined in the suit as Defendant is Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture.
