Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has raised concerns over rising incidence of fake and unverified news emanating from some media outlets on daily basis.
The Governor described the development as a great threat to the peace and unity of Nigeria and called for concerted effort to end the menace.
According to a release by his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, Governor Nwifuru made the statement when he received in audience a team from the National Broadcasting Commission, Tuesday in his office.
The team was led by the Director-General of the commission, Charles Ebuebu.
Nwifuru who maintained that the continued unity of Ebonyi as a uniquely enterprising state is sacrosanct for his administration, regretted that many media practitioners have neglected the rules of the profession.
Nwifuru said: “I thank you for coming to Ebonyi State. But I want you to know many broadcasters have gone out of the rules.
“Many have gone beyond interviewing people to attacking their characters and invading their privacy.
“I also want to remind you that there are lots of fake news in the way some broadcasters do their reports in this country.
“It is important as the regulatory body to eliminate fake news if this country must progress.
