Tax Appeal Tribunal adjourns N65m suit filed against FIRS

The Tax Appeal Tribunal, Abuja has adjourned hearing till February 5 the suit filed by Gazprom Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited seeking to void N65 million VAT re-assessment notices issued it.

Gazprom Oil and Gas had instituted the suit against the Federal Inland Revenue Service over the Value Added Tax re-assessment notices issued the company on March 5, 2013.

The VAT re-assessment notices are for payment of $339,168.87 and 50,894.96 Euros (N65 million).

Nnamdi Ibegbu, the Acting Chairman of the tribunal, adjourned the matter on Wednesday following the inconclusive addresses of the two parties.

The tribunal gave the FIRS seven days to reply the written final address of Gazprom Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited.

Deborah Tarfa-Bassi, counsel to the FIRS, and Folajimi Akinla, counsel to Gazprom, agreed to come to the tribunal with their final written addresses at the next adjourned date.
